Hi,
I have understood model inspection but not getting clarity on series inspection...what is this series inspection... in which scenarios it is used..and what is the difference between these two.. can somebody throw some light on this...Thanks in advance
Kumar
Hi Kumar
As Marc said we will use these two inspection types in First article inspection.
When a vendor supplies the material first time as per all materiall specifications we will test all MIC's with Model inspection.Material passing model inspection is the validation to allow the vendor to supply that material further.Next on wards we will do the series inspection with limited MIC's.

Hi Kumar,
there is a standard in most industries:
Supplier delivers first time a few parts of a material and additional documents, e.g. initial sample record etc.
Thats what you call "model inspection"
This initial inspection is complex and time-consuming. Our initial inspection plan contains approx. 100-200 characteristics (automotive)
If this initial inspection is ok, you want to reduce the effort for incoming inspection.
For further inspection you will use a "series inspection plan". This plan contains approx 20-50 characteristics.
Doing:
Material Master MM01/MM02
You have to create the Quality view according to the receiving plant
Coose the test types (both initial sample 0101 and series 01) and activate them.
Inspection plan QP01/QP02:
create inspection plans, one for initial samples and one for series production.
Have a look to "plan type"
Quality info record QI01/QI02/QI06
create QIR for each combination of material-plant-supplier-revision level
Within the QIR you can toggle between initial sample and series run.
Process:
Every time goods come in, SAP checks also the QIR. With the information initila sample or series, SAP will create an according inspection lot (using the initial sample plan or the series plan).
Just as an overview. You also have to do some customizing.
