How to move Rules to various environments

Former Member

Hi there.

I have a situation where I have defined some profile rules. The challenge is now I need to take my existing rules and use them in another environment without having to re-create my rules within SAP Information Steward. In SAP Data Services, we would normally create an .ATL file and just import your jobs into the new environment... Is there a similar method/way in SAP Information Steward??

If not, what is the method? Would it be to use Life-Cycle Management (now called Promotion Management) and use the LCMBIAR file?

Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Thatoyame,

We have option in the information steward like rules to file . We can export the rules and re use them in different environments.

Please find the below screenshot for the export option for rules.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Remana, I have tried the export and import option and although the rules can be exported and imported the bindings are not. We have a limited number of rules but they are bound to hundreds of fields and these bindings do not export and import. This is a great concern as having to redo the bindings will take many days of duplicate effort.

Hi Johann

Please export your project. This will include all the views, rules, bindings and KDD's. The system will then apply the correct bindings, etc. when you import the project into the new environment.

Hi Lolwane,

This can only be done through "promotion Manager" and this features are available in SAP Business Objects BOE 4.1/IPS 4.2 with BODS 4.2 and Information Steward 4.2,

Please refer the below links for DQM content migration througn "promotion manager" exctly the same features are there in 4.2 version

Hi Thatoyame,

Which version of IS you are using?? Is it IS 4.0??

It is not possible to promote or migrate it to other environment.

Please refer below link for more detail.

Hi Chetan.

Thanks for your reply...

Yes I am using IS 4.0... Now, seeing that I can't use Code Promotion, how do I then address my current situation in having to take my profile rules and use them in another environment? The link you sent does not exactly show me how to do that. Any ideas how to do it?

Thanks.
