Upgrade from SAP PI 7.0 to SAP PI 7.31

Hi Experts,

Currently we are on SAP PI 7.0 version. We are building a parallel system of PI 7.31 and planning to export/import the PI objects from existing SAP PI 7.0. Once we are good to go with the SAP PI 7.31 version then later we can retire existing PI 7.0 system.

My question is do we get any problem in transport or export/import of PI 7.0 objects to PI 7.31 environment? Is it a straight forward process or Do we need to follow some protocol before moving the transports from PI 7.0 to PI 7.31.

OR

2nd option : Shall we do a system copy on the new PI environment and then upgrade it to the SAP PI 7.31?

Please share your thoughts and also provide some useful documents for the same.

Regards

Veer

Hi Veer - You can make use of the directory content migration tool which will convert your classical scenarios into Integrated configurations.

Please check the below documentation for step by step appoach.

http://scn.sap.com/community/process-orchestration/blog/2012/11/19/moving-integration-directory-arti...

Repository objects can be transported with out any issues.

Your second option is possible only when you are upgrading from dual stack to dual stack.

This may save effort but you might not be using any new features which will increase the performance.

I would suggest to import the repository objects and for configuration you can use the above suggested tool.

Hi Veer,

you have to analyse your interfaces. like how many adapters, any java mappings used, etc.

For example in 7.31 you have to modify your 7.0's java mapping.

or if you are having simple scenario like file to file without any complex design then it will be straight forward.

better you study the difference between 7.0 and 7.31 and list the impacts on the interface going from 7.0 to 7.31.

2nd option : Shall we do a system copy on the new PI environment and then upgrade it to the SAP PI 7.31?

you can not directly upgrade from 7.0 to 7.31. this is not available.

from 7.0 to 7.31 fresh installation only option.

before you do anything please check with SAP for any doubts they can help you on this.

Note: There is not much difference between SAP PI 7.4 and SAP PI 7.31,only added advantage  in PI 7.4 is SAP HANA

Best Regards.
