Explain: a diagnosis file named core

Dear All,

We are running HANA SP6 rev67. In the list of diagnosis files there is a file named "core". I can not read the content of the file.

Can someone explain why has this file been created and what is it for?

I am assuming it is memory dump.

Regards

Angad

Hello,

Core files are generally created when something went wrong in the system and it generates core dump. SAP Support can check these core files.

Thanks,

Hi Sunny,

Thanks for the information. So is this a dump of whole used memory/database memory/total resident memory?

We have already created a support incident with SAP. They have suggested a memory corruption. So let's see what do they say.

You need to check trace file to check whether this dump generated because of memory issue or some other problem.

Thanks,

If you don't need it for any root cause investigation you may delete the file. It's not required to keep the system running.

But be aware that you might delete the only option to get to the bottom of the issue that led to the core dump.
