Hi,

Hope it helps.

First of all small eg:

End to End EWA Setup of BOE 4.0 System in Solution Manager 7.1 - Solution Manager - SCN Wiki

1. SAP Host agent

SAP Host Agent is a tool that you can use for monitoring and control of SAP instances and non-SAP instances, operating systems, and databases.

SAP Host Agent is installed automatically during the installation of new SAP instances with SAP kernel 7.20 or higher

You only need to install SAP Host Agent separately in the following cases:

There is no SAP system or instance on the host.

The SAP system or instance running on the host has a kernel release lower than SAP kernel 7.20 and the host does not yet have an SAP Host Agent.

You have upgraded your SAP system to a release with a kernel release lower than SAP kernel 7.20 and the host of the upgraded system or instance does not yet have an SAP Host Agent.

Features

SAP Host Agent provides you with the following features:

SAP instance discovery and inventory

SAP instance control

Database monitoring and management

System or instance provisioning:

Hosting the infrastructure of SAP NetWeaver Landscape Virtualization Management (LVM), formerly known as SAP NetWeaver Adaptive Computing Controller (ACC)

Hosting software lifecycle (SL) tools interfaces

Operating system monitoring:

Using saposcol

Using Common Information Model (CIM) based infrastructures

IBM i-specific features:

Dynamically adopted authorization for SAP kernel 7.20 and higher

SAP ILE daemon (SAPILED)

SAP Database Performance Collector for IBM

2. SAP disgnostics agent ( DAA ) that gets instaeed as seperate instance during the regular spa installation

The diagnostics agent is a central component of the SAP Solution Manager system landscape. The agents are required to monitor the operating system and to discover the database cluster topology. Please check the below doc.

https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap/support/sapnotes/public/services/attachment.htm?iv_key=0120061532000...

2. SAP CCM4X

To monitor an ABAP instance of an SAP system, use the CCMS agent SAPCCM4X. This agent creates an alternative connection route between the monitored instance and the central monitoring system (CEN). Since this alternative connection method no longer requires a free work process, the access route is independent of error states of the ABAP instance and is therefore more robust.
