We are using solution manager’s Business blueprint (SMBB) to serve up various document types (Word, PDF, Visio, text) to users via Internet Explorer (IE8). We have an issue were users w/o Visio installed on the desktop cannot open Visio files (via the URL link) in the browser. It does not matter if you launch the MS office document form Solution Manager or if you cut/paste the URL in to the browser, either way it does you get a blank IE browser window (no error, no data) It works find for Word and Excel but not Visio. Any suggestions?
I am bumping this thread again in the hope someone will have some new thougths. Our Desktop engineering and network folks also looked a this and feel this has to be the way Solman is launching the document and not anything to do with the browser or desktop.

Hi Giri, if Visio is installed on the desktop it works find, that is it opens in the browser. However without visio you get basicly a blank browser page, no errors, just as shown below in the screen shot. Also here is the url.
Also here is the URL from SMBB if it help shed some light on this.
Hi,
Try to check the document attribute, whether you create document URL by clicking generate button.
Please check and update.
Thanks

Hi Jansi, I looked "Viewing the solution manager documents on ESS..." this is what we have been doing. For the other two links(e.g, SAPGUI patch level) we are higher then this and the problem is not in the lauching the URL but in redering it in the web browser. Even if you paste the URL to the browser the error happens. We dont get any error messages, just a blank browser as shown above.
My gut feeling is that its related to an registry issue as the browser does not know it can render a VISIO document.
Hi,
You need to add the document type in the documentation type tab of the project in solar_project_admin.
