Hi Sushant,

To start with, you should apply the standard parameters given by SAP for DB, OS and NW. This will depend on the system usage (whether it is OLAP or OLTP), etc.

Once you have tuned the system as per initial standard settings, you need to run a round of performance tests.

For example if you have installed a NW PI system, then PI team needs to run a load of messages, or if it is a BW installation, then the BW team need to perform Loads, run reports, etc. and check against the agreed SLA's.

Based on the results you can further decide to have more application servers or increase heap, or increase server nodes, or tune database parameters, etc.

Please mention your NW usage type, so that we can help you with specific OSS notes.

Puneet

Hello

Performance tuning of an SAP system is based on many factors.

You need to supply the OS and DB details so that there will be SAP notes suggesting the recommended parameters.

To start the tuning you need to analyse the system workload and the current performance metrics.

Dear RB,

Thanks for the reply.

At present we doing performance testing for Production system on HP-UX OS and Oracle database that is going to be live in Feb'14. So before that we need to do a mock testing of the system performance. If there is any such document, please attach

Thanks

Hi,

To start with the basic test you need to check below notes if you have met all the recommendation given by sap as per the OS and DB.

172747 - SAP on HP-UX: OS kernel parameter recommendations

1077887 - SAP on HP-UX:mount & filesystem options for best performance

Check the performance tips in the below note.

1075118 - SAP on HP-UX: FAQ

Oracle related.

618868 - FAQ: Oracle performance

1431798 - Oracle 11.2.0: Database Parameter Settings

These are some of the things that you need to check from the system point of view.

Another thing you need to schedule a golive check with sap before approx 4-6 week before of golive.

1793264 - Advanced Remote Service Delivery - Customer info

Now about the functionality that you are going to golive with.

Has your project taken in to account of some kind of testing tools(like load runner) that can do the performance testing  and get small ratio of the concurrent users on the system and run some of the test case that you think would run as a part of business when you golive.

Then you need to take in account what kind of error you have and what is the system performance.

If you are not using any tools that you need to set up small set of users and ask them to perform same action or test cases.

Hope you would have used the sizing tool to get the hardware in account depending on the concurrent users and configured your system accordingly the memory and cpu.

Thanks

Hello Sushant

It depends on what purpose the system is used for.

If this is a BI system then you can do some data extractions from the source systems and see how it performs.

I believe the system (SAP, Oracle and HP-UX) has been set with the parameters recommended by SAP.

To do some testing on the system I would get the help of the application team to do it.

The hardware has been sized based on the number of users working on the system (expected).
