Hi Experts,
We have regular communication issues between our BI and ECC System saying "connection to partner hostname:sapgw00 broken".
Sometimes there will not be this issue and BI Load happens without any errors.
Source System check and RFCs are working fine always.
What is the ideal bandwidth for ECC-BI RFC Connectivity?Which are all other factors can affect the RFC Connectivity?
What are all other possible checks can be done to identify the possible network bottleneck?
Which are all niping tests can help to identify the reason of this issue?
Thanks & Best Regards,
Kiran Sathyan.
Hello Kiran,
I know this is a very old post, but I thought I just try my luck.
Have you been able to resolve this issue? I am currently facing errors in the communication between BI and ECC that sound excactly like the problem you were describing.
Best Regards
Felix

Hi Felix,
I remember , the issue was purely in the Network side. Niping is the tool to check connectivity issue between SAP servers.
Please check 500235 - Network Diagnosis with NIPING for different scenarios. It will surely help to pinpoint the issue.
Thanks & Best Rgds.

Hello
If this is an intermittent issue then I think this could possibly be due to maximum no of gateway's/connections exceeded.
You may check the gateway logs.
I would also bring in the network specialist to check the network issues (if any)

Hi Reagan,
There is no "number of gw connection" specific information in the logs:
The error message in BI Gateway log whenever there is an issue is " ERROR read from SAP gateway failed" with return code 239 and detail "connection to gateway on host <ECC-hostname>/ sapdp00 broken"
In SM21 of BI system, the error message is "communication error, CPIC return code 017, SAP return code 247"
Thanks & Best Rgds,
Kiran Sathyan.
Hi,
You can check the below note.
545136 - FAQ: Test tools for RFC connections
Question: How can I test the network connection between two hosts more thoroughly?
Reply: Applicable tool: niping
Detailed description:
Note 500235, network diagnosis with NIPING,
Note 155147, WinNT: Connection reset by peer
1100926 - FAQ: Network performance
Can you also let me know if you change hostname to ip address and see if the problem still occurs after that. I also had this issue as the problem was with one of the ip and in 1 of the network path .
Thanks

Hi Rishi,
Thank you for replying.
I have tried changing hostname/IP in RFCs.RFC works fine. However, Data load fails, even if the table has single record.
I have checked LAN stability test using below command
niping -c -H <IP> -B 1000 -D 100 -L 36000 -V 2 -T tracefile
It has run for 10 hours without any interruptions.
What are all other tests, which can be done to figure out the cause?
Thanks & Best Regards,
Kiran Sathyan.
Hi,
Can you try to check the authorization trace for the current update process in the target system. If single record cant be updated then can you try to increase trace level of the gateway and see if it record more details and the amount of data received in the target system. If the data can be seen in the gateway of the target system then it cant be network issue.
Can you please provide the kind of load that is having the issue. Is it will all the load?
Does all the load fails or only this specific process.
As suggested earlier you can use the above note to check network issue.
Do you see any error in the dev_rd logs.
Thanks
Rishi Abrol
