SMD Agent Setup in Windows HA

Former Member

Hi Experts,

We are installing SMD Agent in Windows HA envirnoment.

We have 2 Nodes (Node A, Node B)

Three application installed using virtual name(seperate for Database and application)

In total 6 virtual names in use and 2 physical nodes.

I have below doubt/question:

Do I need to install seperate SMD for each virtual name (8 SMD Agent for 6 Virtual name and 2 for physical Nodes)

Or Just 2 SMD Agent for each physical Node.

Regards

Vinay

Hi All,

As mentioned by Billy, my Solman Patch level is SP 08.

Agent on fly is activated on HA, that worked for me.

Further now while performing managed system configuration for Java system

Assign Diagnostic Agent -- completed

Now stuck at below

Configure Automatically -- Issue (Byte Code Adapter Installation failed)

Wily introscope setup for TS:###-JAVA - host:#### - server node:#####

Do you need to set HA for the Java host in a previous step of configuring the system?

Hi

You should have one Diagnostics Agent per host, pointing to logical hostname (usually detected by sapinst) each agent of the cluster shoult have a different name and port, example: DA1 port 97 DA2 port 96. This feature is called Agent on the flight.

Hope this helps.

@Jose That is only required if you are not SP05 or higher in Solution Manager, and is not Agent on the fly.

Review the link that was posted earlier in this thread: Diagnostics Agent and HA Support - SAP Solution Manager Setup - SCN Wiki

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies,

Our Solman in on ST 710 patch 8.

I installed two SMD agent, one NodeA and one for Node B on which my application runs.

Now in Solman while performing managed system configuration of that specific Java application configuration, it reads the virtual name for application and database instance and also both physical host and need to assign SMD agent to each of these.

I am still confused how many SMD agent to be install for once application now.

I am stuck in that step.

Hi

In HA environment if you are having multiple SID (Not an application) can hand one SMD per physical host or Node.

In which step you are stuck? Could tell us in detail?

The number of SMD agents will depend upon your SolMan stack level, if you are stack level 05 or greater you can leverage agent on the fly scenarios; if you are on a lower release you will be installing multiple SMD agents for each service you need to monitor.

You can verify your stack level via the 'ST' software component.

As per your scenario what i will recommend is:-

1. You will have to install 8 SMD agents(6- vitual+2 physical)

2. Also install 2 saphostagents on 2 physical nodes.

Hope this answers your query.
