Hi All,
I want to setup network printer [ Printer name XYZ, Printer host: XNEWY} with access method S.
Could you please tell me
1. What activties should I do at Network side?
2. What activties should I do at SAP System side?
3. How should I test if priting at that network printer is working or not ?
Regards,
Vinay
Hi Vinay
Kindly follow the steps to configuration of SAP SPrint method
1. What activities should I do at Network side?
Just do the normal printer configurations from network printer -XYZ to Printer host: XNEWY. and install the SAP S print service on host XNEWY, and check the service is started
2. What activties should I do at SAP System side?
In SAP System side go to T-code SPAD → Output Devices → This graphic is explained in the accompanying textChange→ Output device → Create/Create using template
Under the Device Attributes - Tab
1. Output Device name XYZ_SAP
2. Short Name - XYZ
3 Device type - SWIN
Under the Access Method tab
4.Host Spool Access Method -S
5. Host printer - XYZ (Where is the XYZ printer configured )
6 Destination host - XNEWY (Where the SAP S print service running host)
3. How should I test if priting at that network printer is working or not ?
From SAP system just select the output printer Device name - XYZ_SAP to release the printout,
Note - During the printing time in the host XNEWY SAPSPrint service should be running
You can refer the some of the SAP Link to refer

IP & Port 515 should allow in WAN area
2. Also we need to open 515 port in sap router?
515 port is SAP Sprint service, you have to enable in WAN area
3. Any entry on print server? how prinwill ever will come to know about Sap server?
By using the 515 port it will communicate from SAP System is spool server to host spool server (that is on SAP SPrint service running )
First do the configuration on the local network, check the sample printouts and then try for WAN area.
In my environment we have more than 500 printers are configured in LAN & WAN area.

Hi Sriram,
Thank you for your detailed answer.
one questions still remains is
Do we need to do any DNS entries at SAP side or printer side?
How printer host and SAP Server will communicate ?
If below is the scenario
SAP Server ---->SAP Router ---->Print server
Is there any settings we need to add into the router ? e.g port 515 etc
Is there any entry required at Print server.

Vinay

Hi Vinay
For your query's
Do we need to do any DNS entries at SAP side or printer side?
Its not require to define the DNS. you can assign the IP address of the HOST Spool server which is running the SAPSPrint service.
How printer host and SAP Server will communicate ?
Form SAP system that on SAP Spool server to host spool server that is where you are installed the SAPSPrint service by using the 515 port in host spool server
SAP Server ---->SAP Router ---->Print server
Not that way, SAP System to Print Server(Host spool server) Kindly refer the below screen shot use the SAP SPrint method S
Is there any settings we need to add into the router ? e.g port 515 etc
Is there any entry required at Print server.
Nothing to do any thing in the SAP router

There you will find things like this:
http://scn.sap.com/community/output-management/blog/2013/06/22/leverage-a-windows-print-server
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-30837
Once you have selected method S you will need to put in the UNC path of the print server and printer (share name), example \\server\printer
Also ensure that you use the correct Device Type as that can really cause a head ache if the printer is able to understand a PS document and it only supports PCL, it will waste a lot of paper before it stops 'printing'.
