Decimals in S&OP - clarification needed

Hello S&OP Community

I am looking for a clarification as to how decimal places
in S&OP work or behave. It is my understanding that this comes into play in
places.

A – When defining an attribute and it is intended to use
it as a key figure, one would choose DECIMAL as data type. By default, the length
is 18 and 6 decimal digits, the places after the decimal sign. I believe this
is set directly in the HANA database. Is this correct? Can this setting be
changed, e.g. to 20 length and only 4 decimal digits? At my customer, most of
the key figure data comes in with 4 digits – I assume when loading the system
will just will the remaining/last 2 digits with zeros.

B – When defining there actually and as far as I know, no
place to see or to define the length and the decimal digits. Is the setting for
key figures the same as for an attribute with data type DECIMAL, meaning a length
of 18 and 6 decimal digits? If different, what maximum length can a key figure
have and how many decimal places? Same as for part (A) of my question, would
the system load any key figure data with 4 decimal places and then fill in any
further decimal places with zeros? That would be my assumption but experience
has shown that it is always good to validate an assumption.

Which decimal separator is the system using? Comma or period
point?

Is this a global setting and can it be changed somewhere?

Thank you,

Jens

Hi Jens,

A - All Key Figures in S&OP are stored in type Decimal (18,6) . This is sufficient for all Value and Qty KFs. The KF fields (if KF is stored) are generated and stored in HANA tables upon activation.

You cannot change setting to a different length and this is not required. If you have only 4 digits, the data is stored for only 4 digits.

B- same as A.

The decimal separator is period only.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hi Raghav,

Is the key figure length in IBP 4.0 also remains same i.e. Decimal (18,6) ?

Also what is the length for a helper key figure?

Thanks

Vijay
