Hello,

We are upgrading our hardware, hence we want restore MSSQL backup to new server with the help of TAPE Drive.

We have installed Win 2008 with MSSQL 2005.

Now we are trying to restore a backup with following steps.

We have created new database

New Backup device configured as Tape (R3DUMP0 =\\.\Tape0)

Right click to database restore from device as tape--> \\.\Tape0--> Ok

After Ok it generate following error message

An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

Server Name: pzpsrvr

Error Number: -2

Severity: 11

State: 0

Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

I have made all firewall related changes.

Please suggest solution

Hi Amol

In SAP installation you must disable the firewall & UAC

In place backup /restore you can move the database by using the deattach & attach method.

1. Stop the SAP application

2. Kindly refer the you tube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLMPAnSHSwQ

Hello Sriram,

We are in process of upgrading hardware, we have purchased new hardware for this activity.

We are not disturbing our current setup until we complete backup restore activity.

Also we are not using detach/ attach method for backup restore.

We are simply making use of Tape drive for backup restore as i said above.

Amol
