using SWPM for system copy

Former Member

Hi,

We are making a system copy of SCM 7.0 system where ABAP and Java are in same host with different SID and database.

Is it mandatory to use the SWPM for taking the export/import of database or still we can use the sapinst for taking the export of the database of

SCM 7.0 ?

Please share your experiences on taking the system copy of these type of systems.

Thanks & Regards,

Ramakrishna

Hello Ramakrishna,

Last year, SAP has released the Software Provisioning Manager 1.0. For your reference you can check the SAP note #1680045 - Release Note for Software Provisioning Manager 1.0

SWPM is the new name of SAPinst. It works as the same way, but it has all the latest improvements, updates and corrections. This is the reason our development team asks to use this tool instead of the old medias.

The SAP note #1680045 shows all the systems that can be installed with the tool. Also it points a page where you can download the SWPM and the guides as well.

SAP always recommends to use the newest tool available, once they have the latest corrections available. If you check the SAP Marketplace, the installation medias are not available anymore for download. Also refer SAP note #1589311, which indicates that old installation master medias cannot be used anymore.

I hope this information can be helpful for you.

If you already have the installation media with the sapinst then you may use that.

Hi,

Recommended to use SWPM for system copy & rename.

Please use SWPM SP4 and SL toolkit 1.0 with SP 09.

Becoz there was lot many bugs in SL SP's the correction are included in SL 1.0 SP 09.

Hi,

As suggested, please use SWPM as this is recommended by SAP and contains latest fixes as well.

We recently migrated our Production NW 7.0 portal from Windows to Linux using the SWPM. Did not face any issue with the same.

Dear Ramakrishna,

you should use SWPM for taking export/import.

most probably you will not find installation master CDs with sapinst, so can not use it if its already downloaded for you. Better use SWPM, as its very similar and latest tool supported by SAP.
