How to tag sample materials?

Hi Gurus,

We have a specific requirement to identify sample materials separately. In our company we have created material numbers based on unit of measure,

say for example for material "Wheat floor" we have five different material numbers created based on the package size it is sold. Like material number 10001 - Wheat floor 1 KG, Material number 10002 - Wheat floor 2 KG, Material number 10003 - Wheat floor 5 KG,Material number 10004 - Wheat floor 50 KG and Material number 10005 - Wheat floor 100 KG. In these five materials 10001 to 10003 are sample materials which are given as sample, where as once the customer places the regular order they are supplied as 50KG or 100KG bags. So 10001, 10002 & 10003 are sample materials where as 10004 and 10005 are regular materials. Now we want a parameter in material master which we can use to differentiate sample materials from regular materials. Please let me know your inputs on which filed would be ideal to tag sample materials.

Regards,

Ramesh

Hi Ramesh,

For your business 10001, 10002 & 10003 are generally std material only. with Item Category group NORM.

Now in your case while selling 10004 & 10005 material above three material will become sample material.

Sample material is nothing but free of cost material. so while selling we should not charge from the customer for 10001, 10002, & 10003 material and delivery of this 3 material should together with mtrl 10004 & 10005. Right?

for this Item category determination will help you.

Go to VOV4,

select your order type which have item category grp NORM.

5th Column Manual Item category.

Maintain TANN.

So manual item category TANN will help u to give that material as a sample material.

While raising sales order 10004 & 10005 keep as a TAN only and remaining (10001, 10002, 10003) give manually TANN. (Now this will not consider price)

Now for Group Delivery:

sales order - Shipping TAB (not header/ Not Item)

Group delivery

Give "1" for all material and process.

Hi,

As JM rightly mentioned, create a material groups 'Samples' and 'Normal' etc. and assign the material group number in material master basic data 1. Create two materials for wheat flour, one under sample and other under normal material group.

Hi,

in master material, you can use material group fields MVKE-MVGR1 to 5 in tab sales org 2. Those fields are available in sales orders at item level, tab Additional data A.

Hi

Usually you can use the same material for both (priced and free or sample material). You can identify it with the type of item (TAN vs. TANN or a copy of these type of items)

Other way is if in this organization the materials are different, you can manage it with transactions OMS2 and MMNR.

I hope this helps you
