Hi all,
We plan to migrate a system currently running on Windows Server 2003 R2 and MS SQL Server 2005 to Windows Server 2012 and MS SQL Server 2012.
Is it possible to do a migration to a new server on Windows Server 2012 first and then perform a DB upgrade to MS SQL Server 2012?
We are aware that after the migration, the DB (MS SQL Server 2005) will not be compatible with the new OS (Windows Server 2012) but will we still be able to perform an upgrade to MS SQL Server 2012?
Thanks and regards.
Hi Gregory,

Hi Karthikeyan,
Thanks for the info. I've already gone through most of the notes. For the application, it should be alright as it involves systems with ECC6 EHP5 and BW 7.0. I've already checked note 1651862 and confirmed that it meets the minimum levels for MS SQL Server 2012.
The main question is whether I would be able to perform a system copy to a new server on Windows Server 2012 first and then perform a DB upgrade from MS SQL Server 2005 to MS SQL Server 2012?
Thanks again.
