HANA DB-IN Memory

Former Member

Hi Gurus,

We have installed EHP7/ HANA 1.0 sp6 patch 68 and we are using XS memory 128GB for DEV box. After post activity and client copy completed in SAP, i could able to find the database memory of HANA was increased high. I have given 100 GB as allocated memory for DEV and out of 100 GB iam crossed 60 GB now. Iam little afraid that how can i manage with remaining 40 GB in future if DATA size become huge. And also i found that the used memory of DATABASE is not stable ..some times its crossing 75 GB and after DB restart its come back to old stage of 60 GB..If this is the case,is it feasible to create another SID for QAS in the same box with remaining 40 GB?

Is there any memory parameters or any changes need to be done to reduce the DB memory? And also is there any option available to reduce the USED DB MEMORY..(60GB to be reduce in my case) and to clear the PEAK MEMORY?

Please help me on this.....

Hi Vinodh,

Please check below link

https://cookbook.experiencesaphana.com/bw/operating-bw-on-hana/hana-database-administration/system-c...

parameter global_allocation_limit can limit the memory  for DB.

Please let us know the size of your database based on it you can decide.

Hi Atul,

I have already set the parameter value as 102400 MB (100GB) in global_allocation_limit..

Previously i have given 60 GB in this parameter...but at the stage of running SGEN or CLIENT COPY at sap..the utilization becomes high and peak value crossed above 60GB..hence DB becomes HANG and connection failed with lot of error. Then i changed to 100GB in global_allocation_limit..

Is there any chance to reduce the existing size of DB..or to avoid the huge growth of DB.in future?

hi vinodh,

if only single HANA DB is running on server it can handle the 1TB of data as per sap recommendation .

https://cookbook.experiencesaphana.com/bw/operating-bw-on-hana/hana-database-administration/monitori...

there are few parameter using that you can restrict the loading of table.

Hi Atul,

Thankyou for the valuable new information...

And Iam planning to go for EA-HR component patch update in SAP ERP, which may consume more DB memory.Hence my question, is that a better way to make the changes in parameters and then to start the patch update?or shall i go for patch update and then later i can go for memory tuning?

Hi Vinod,

You can tune memory and strat patching after that.
