How to search documents attachments/ originals in PLM WebUI embedded search

Hi All,

We have implemented the embedded search for PLM WebUI using search connectors for Document Info Record. The scenario works almost as intended and searches in an unified way inside its document business objects (structured data). However, I am not sure if the associated file attachments (the originals PDF, WORD, EXL) are being indexed and searched. SAP Note 1249465 - TREX 7.1: Installing TREX for Embedded Search states: "Embedded search enables SAP Business Suite application to search in an unified way inside its search-enabled business objects (structured data) and associated file attachments (unstructured data) - if the associated file attachment is enabled for Embedded Search as well." Am I missing to activate any search connector?

SAP Netweaver basis already enables documents to be searched by performing the necessary settings in customizing IMG and index data via trx. SKPR07 on SAP TREX. This document is then searchable via the "document search". We have enabled this as well and it works perfect searching inside the documents in trx CV04N. However, not via the PLM Web UI embedded search.

I am confused because for CRM this functionality seems to be in development phase. So its quite possible that for PLM also its not available. Does anyone has any insights? See here:

Hi Jethi,

First make sure the indexing is successful for DIR connector, use the tcode "ESH_COCKPIT" and search for DIR connect and perform indexing.

Once the indexing is successful then, go to PLM WebUI - "Product engineering" menu and select document as object type and click on "advanced search" option where you will find the file types as an option to search for documents.

I am sure it will be a indexing problem. we dont need to make any special settings to search the documents by file types.

I performed a consistency check for Document Info Record search connector and I get the following message.

No search results for DE2300~DOCUM_INFO_REC~ request DEFAULT; check authoriz./indexing in back end

Connector DE2300~DOCUM_INFO_REC~ with request PLM is searchable

Connector DE2300~DOCUM_INFO_REC~ with request PLM_MAT_CLASS is searchable

Is this some security issue in the back-end? The security team is not willing to provide us with the standard SAP role, so they have given access to objects S_ESH_ADM and S_ESH_PUSH

Hi,

for sure full text search is also considering your original files content. But you can/should configure it properly as you might not want to index specific file types, for example 3D CAD drawings that don't really contain much meaningful text etc.

Anyhow, have you checked note 1739836 - Problems with text (files) in Enterprise Search?

Also, have you followed the installation guide for PLM Web UI  Embedded Search?

We have our TREX basis installation reviewed by SAP and I have followed the attached config guide to enable the embedded search using the document_info_type model to search for documents.
