Former Member

Hello all,

I am applying EHP6 .

I am getting this error:

No local sapstartsrv start service was detected for system I have seen this note

1656036 - SUM functionality for checking sapstartsrv patch level but no help from there.

Any idea. Is it some problem with kernel?

Thanks

Reza

Check this SAP note

927637  - Web service authentication in sapstartsrv as of Release 7.00

Paste the complete log file or the screen shot here

Hi,

This is a typical behavior of SUM to ask for <sid>adm password is normal as the the web service sapstartsrv requires OS authentication to stop/start SAP instances of a system. Hence you need to have sapstartsrv webservice process configured and running for each of the instance of the system  . The is by default installed as of NW 7.0.

But for 640 release as well , sapstartsrv webservice is required for SUM to proceed.

Please check this note

Note 1656036 - SUM functionality for checking sapstartsrv patch level

Also check the notes mentioned in the above note.

For Linux/UNIX systems based on SAP NetWeaver 2004 (Web AS 6.40) also apply:

  • SAP Note 995116 - Backward porting of sapstartsrv for earlier releases
  • SAP Note 823941 - SAP start service on Unix platforms

Hi,

It might be that you might get error if you continue further.

I would suggest you to try and go for reboot and try to check that all the kernel files are same in all the directory.

If it is unix check all the kernel permission is ok.

On Windows those commands look something like:

]usr\sap\SID\DV*\exe\sapstartsrv.exe -r -q -p \sapmnt\SID\profile\<SCS_or_JAVA_profile> -s <SID> -n <instance number> -U .\SAPService<SID> -P <SecureField> -e <SID>adm

On UNIX the command lines a slightly different:

/usr/sap/SID/DV*/exe/sapstartsrv pf=/sapmnt/SID/profile/<SCS_or_JAVA_profile> -D

1656036 - SUM functionality for checking sapstartsrv patch level

Have you tried another SUM tool version are are using the same tool that you have used in other systems.

Can try doing kernel upgrade if all is fine as last step

Thanks

Hi,

Was the kernel version same in all the directory for sapstartsrv.

Was the kernel version same when you did the upgrade in DEV and test.

As per the note mentioned to you earlier sapstartsrv should be at certain patch level and running with the right profile.

Thanks

Hello Reza

The screen shot is missing in your previous reply.

The problem could be more likely with the permissions.

If the permissions are correct then restart SUM and see if that helps.

Pls check note: 1348820 - sapstartsrv hangs after receiving 'StopService'

Java, ABAP+Java: Check for sapstartsrv Patch Level on the Source System

To guarantee that the Java or dual-stack SAP system can be correctly manipulated during the update/upgrade process, the Software Update Manager checks whether the patch level of SAP start service (sapstartsrv) on the source system is appropriate. This check is performed in the beginning of the SUM process so that known problems, related to system detection as well as proper stop and start of the SAP system, will be prevented. For more information, see SAP Note 1656036.

what is your source system version on which you are applying EHP6 ?

If this has kernel version less than 640, you can ignore this. (we have done this while doing 4.6c upgrade)

best regards
