How to install BI on SAP ECC 6?

Former Member

Hello,

I'm a little confused. I really would like to be able to use Business Intelligence (which includes things like bex query, report designer etc.), however I have been unable to find out how I would go about installing this.

I have currently only installed ECC 6, EH4, ABAP AS. Now, with ABAP AS, there is no "software units" option where I can select ABAP BI, it just goes through installation without software unit selection (maybe it installs everything by default?).

Now, this is where I'm confused and don't know what to do... Should I also now install JAVA AS, as this has "BI Java" option, but not sure if this will be accessible through SAP GUI that I use for ABAP AS.

Some guidance on this issue would be appreciated.

BI and ECC are two separate products from SAP.

You cannot use an ECC system for the functions provided by an SAP BW system.

BI systems are mainly single client systems.

I haven't come across a system where a single system is used as ECC and BW.

Installing a Java system with BI usage type wont give you the BW functionality.

It is easy to understand the difference between these two if you know how they work.

Hi,

I think its good to past the complete sentence.

    Compatibility of Components
      a) SAP NetWeaver components

                    - The installation of SAP NetWeaver components/usage types BW/BI, XI/PI, EP, MI, and DI together with SAP ECC in the same instance (the same SID) is restricted. For a detailed description, see SAP Note 855534.
                    - For some operating systems, performance restrictions apply to SAP Internet Pricing and Configurator (IPC). For more information, see SAP Note 853050.

So what is the restriction Please read the full note.

855534 - Dual Stack and SAP Business Suite 7

I think wee need to call an SAP moderator and ask him to provide more update.

Thanks

You can install an BI system side-by-side with an ECC system on the same machine.

But you can't use BI functionality within the ECC system or vice versa.

These are two different systems which of corse need to be connected to exchange data.

Hi,

Is this a system that you have for your own testing and skill update.

You just need can add BI content patch to this system and this system will become BW system with ECC.

Another thing if you want to install APAB BI system you should use NW Installation .

You should keep BW and ECC system separate till you go with HANA as there can be performance issue if both the functionality are together.

Thanks

HI

I thing you have to install the SAP NW BI in Dual stack (ABAP - BI Data modeling & JAVA - Portal to View the report). Kindly refer the installation guideshttps://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/howtoguides
