Hello Experts,
My question concerns changing the number of Chars. and Decimal places in CT04. I've done the following:
Created a Batch Class x_xxx.
Created Numeric general characteristics with X number of Chars and X number of Decimals... then saved.
Created MICs from reference General Chars mentioned above.
During creation, the entry of Number of Chars. and Decimals was not correct.
When I attempt to change them on the basic data screen I get an error....
"The allowed values must first be adjusted to match the new length".
When I go to the values screen and change the spec range, it does allow me to save, but the
entry is not functionally clear to me.
My question,
Simply stated:
Please explain how to correct this: (the number of Chars and Decimals)
Please explain the relationship between the No. of Chars./Decimals on the basic data screen versus the values screen.
Much Thanks in advance.
Verroz
Thanks, This I discovered.

Once created, you can usually only increase the number of characters and the number of decimals. SAP does not allow you to decrease the characters or decimals because this can result in a loss of existing data.
Therefore you must manually modify all existing values, (i.e. any batch values, values in classes, or in material master), to conform to what you want. If you can't, you can't reduce. It can be very difficult sometimes to reduce.
