Message server ports when more than 98 SAP systems with NIS

We are using NIS with Solaris. We have defined sapms<SID> service starting with 3600 to 3697 with NIS. Now we have no more ports in 3600 series to use with NIS for new SAP system instances we are going to build.

I am wondering if we can define sapms<SID> service starting with 4000 serires for new Instances. Any idea ?

thx

NOpe but you can reuse the numbers. As long as you don't have two systems with the same number running on the same physical server you won't have a problem.

Oh installing though you may have to make temporary changes to your /etc/services file to comment on the ports already used that you are trying to - this is of course if you have one central /etc/services file for all systems.

We are not using local /etc/services. We have NIS (Network Information Naming seivice) turned on all UNIX servers. In other words, sapms<SID> is visible on all UNIX severers is visible through 'ypcat services'.

Hence It is imperitive that we can't have two sapms<SID> pointing to same 36xx port. I am wondering if there in any way through profile parameters to change the sapms<SID> port from default 36xx series to another series like 46xx.

Thx

Having thr systems once running duplicated in the services file is fine. Just when installing new you have to comment out.

But the systems will run with the same number provided they are not on the same physical server.

3600 is 3600 where the key is sapms<SID> where SID is always unqiue whether it be H01 or B01 or H00 or B00 or HR1 or BR1.
