There are 7 types of Queries in xMII, each used to talk to a diff datasource using diff connectors. U can see the type of data source u can access using a query in the Data Source tab. And with each query, u've got diff modes to query the data based.
For e.g:
1) Tag Query- Used to access historian, human-machine interface (HMI,
SCADA, and I/O systems)
2) SQL Query- Used to access relational data in a wide range of database
sources
3) Alarm Query- Used to access alarm/event management systems (HMI,
building automation, network management, etc.)
4) XML Query- Used to access static or dynamic XML content (typical interface
to ERP and related systems)
5) Aggregate Query- used to take data from multiple queries and combine them
into a single document.
6) OLAP Query- used to query data from data warehouse, or cubed data, using
MDX query syntax
7) Xacute Query- used to run an SAP xMII Business Logic Transaction and
return the results to an SAP xMII visual component.
