Connection to Server failed after restarting NW 7.4 installation

Former Member

I am trying to install NW 7.4 ( the SAP Systems Based on the
Application Server Java of SAP NetWeaver on Windows: SAP MaxDB

Using Software Provisioning Manager 1.0). I stumbled upon a
problem that the installer asks for 3 different parameters at once in the
LABEL.ASC file, but consumes only one at a time. I quit the installer hoping to
start anew.

Now I cannot process with installation because of this
message on the installer's (SAPInst) Connection to Server screen:

[Error while connecting to communication partner - see preceding messages.

Could not connect to host localhost on port 21212.

java.net.ConnectException:  Connection refused: connect

java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect]

I attached the log file - Connection to Server.txt

Can you help me with resolving 1) this connection issue, and then 2) submitting

3 different parameters at once in the LABEL.ASC file (or bypassing this issue).

Tnx.

Hi Aram,

Appears that sapinst has exited and you have started sapinstgui.

Please exit the sapinstgui and sapinst again and choose option of continue with old options.

I moved MaxDb installation discussion to http://scn.sap.com/thread/3453148 thread.

Thank you everyone for your input.
I did start SAPInst from command line. I think that it then starts Installation Server and Installation GUI and quits.
I followed (in a sense)  Rishi's advise and performed these [drastic] actions:
1. Copied InstallSoftware into InstallSoftwareCopy (took about an hour)
2. Removed all files that had time stamp later than 10/20/13 – I assumed these were the files that got created during installation (it is not a good idea making changes in distribution source folders: all changes by installer should be done in installation target folder or be clearly localized in a folder in distribution hierarchy).
3. Removed (actually, renamed) sapinst_instdir from ProgramFiles folder.
4. Ensured that all firewalls are off
After this I was able to restart installation process. However, I still cannot choose the right LABEL.ASC files I need to point to during installation process. There are about 60 such files in several folders and .ZIP files. I figured that the one in InstallSoftware\temp is for Installer. and C:\Users\exiphladm\Desktop\InstallSoftwareCopy\51044971\DATA_UNITS\JAVA_J2EE_OSINDEP for J2EE. Also I updated this value in SAP Kernel folder: SAP:AKK:740:UKERNEL:*:WINDOWS_X86_64:*, but kept struggling with submitting it to the Installer. And I have no idea where I can find LABEL.ASC with MAXDB:*:RDBMS:MAX DB:WINDOWS_X86_64:* value.
I'll appreciate a link to documentation that explains LABEL.ASC meaning and usage.

Hello

SAP:AKK:740:UKERNEL:*:WINDOWS_X86_64:*, but kept struggling with submitting it to the Installer. And I have no idea where I can find LABEL.ASC with MAXDB:*:RDBMS:MAX DB:WINDOWS_X86_64:* value.

Follow this path and download the MaxDB software.

Thanks, Benjamin,

Unfortunately, I could not find SAPDB or MaxDB on the screen:

I tried searching for SAPDB or MaxDB downloads, but at best I got a list of PDF documents about not too relevant installations. Is there a guide for searching SAP Portals correctly?

The problem could be with the S-User you are using. I suggest you to use another one.

Thanks, Rishi for your posts.

I un-archived 51046232_2.zip and restarted installation anew. I still cannot find LABEL.ASC file with MAXDB:*:RDBMS:MAX DB:WINDOWS_X86_64:*:

Is there other way for bypassing this installation screen?

Here we go:

You entered:

    C:\Users\exiphladm\Desktop\InstallSoftwareCopy\temp\SAP_Kernel_7.40_Windows_x64_

Found

    the label SAP:AKK:740_EXT:DVD_KERNEL:SAP Kernel

740_EXT:Dxxxxxxxx:*:D51046232 but need the label MAXDB:*:RDBMS:MAX

    DB:WINDOWS_X86_64:*

Thanks,

  Aram.

Hi,

reason why i asked you the full screen message as there are two DVD's required. One is kernel and another is MAXDB.

I think Kernel one is ok but the issue is with MAXDB.

As per the Mastre DVD you require this DVD.

MaxDB 7.9

MAXDB 7.9

SAP MaxDB 7.9 RDBMS – SP8 Build 5

Mat. No. 51043941

SO you can click on the below link and see with the Version of MAXDB that you want.

https://websmp109.sap-ag.de/~form/handler?_APP=00200682500000001943&_EVENT=DISPHIER&HEADER=Y&FUNCTIO...

So i think you need this

51046733_14SAP MaxDB 7.9 Backwards - SP8 Build 08 MAXDB_WINDOWS_X86_64 Info 21717222.07.2013

Thanks
