How to connect SAP GUI to SAP?

Former Member

Hello,

I've installed ECC 6.0 (Enhancement pack 4 - ERP 6.0, java application server, oracle db) on a vmware Virtual machine (Windows Server 2003 R2).

I'm trying to access my SAP system using SAP GUI, but am unsure on what configuration I need to input. Firstly, to give you a layout of my SAP system, and to show it is running (as it normally should);

Now for SAP GUI, is this right?

Application Server - 192.168.25.25 (my systems ip)

Instance Number - 00

System ID - TTT

SAProuter String -  (left blank)

I think I'm doing something wrong, because it simply just says "connecting - please wait.." and just hangs there.

Please take a careful look and suggest what you think could be wrong. Thanks!

Hi,

It's a java stack so you cannot logon to it using SAPGUI.

SAPGUI can only be used to logon to abap stack but you don't have java stack in this instance.

Thanks.

Ok, I have two follow up questions;

1. How would I login? Is a browser the only way? Do I have to do;

http://hostname:5<instance number>00 ?

So it would be; http://taz:50000 and I should be able to log in?

2. If I install Abap AS (on top of the Java AS that I have now), will I be able to connect using SAP GUI? Main reason I initially tried JAVA AS was to access BI, would I still be able to access this fine if I installed ABAP AS?

Thanks.

Yes Jake,

Install ABAP application server on your existing system and you can able to access the system via SAP GUI,

use http://fullyqualifieddomainname:50000

Try these links:

http://hostname:50000/nwa

http://hostname:50000/iirj/portal

SAPGui is only used for ABAP systems

Hi Jake,

Do you already have BI AS ABAP in your landscape? If that is the case, you have to connect the BI ABAP system at backend to the AS JAVA system.

hi Jake,

You need to make the selection of  highlighted Software Units and without these selection You can't install the BI. Please read the Description and Depends On from attachment which is snapshot of Installation Master. hopefully, I might be helpful and clear your concept.

Hello,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, for some reason I do not get that package option that is shown in your screen shot.

This is what I have installed; Enhancement Package 4 for SAP ERP 6.0 -> SAP Application Server ABAP -> Oracle -> Central System

Description Installation of Enhancement Package 4 for SAP ERP 6.0 Choose whether you want to install:

SAP Application Server ABAP (SAP system based on AS ABAP)

SAP Application Server Java (SAP system based on AS Java) with one or more software units or usage types

You navigate to your installation by selecting first your SAP system (SAP Application Server ABAP or SAP Application Server Java), then your database, and then the required distribution option. The distribution option defines how you want to distribute the SAP system instances to hosts. After you have started the installation of SAP Application Server Java, you can select the software units or usage types that you require for your system landscape as listed in the Master Guide - such as Enterprise Portal (EP) or Biller Direct (BD). Software Life-Cycle Options comprises services that can be performed in addition to installations and upgrades - for example, System Copy. For more information on the available installation options, see the Master Guide at http://service.sap.com/erp-inst.

I've tried both "typical" and "custom" install, but those software units option for some reason does not show up.
