We have fixed replenishment set up with mvmt type 319 and a separate search sequence to look at the fixed bin storage type last. We have a requirement that some extra pallets of parts are stored in the same storage type as the fixed bin and should be considered as a source for fixed replenishment. How can we avoid the fixed bin itself from being considered as a source bin while still allowing other bins in the same storage type to be considered?
Hi,
"We have a requirement that some extra pallets of parts are stored in the same storage type as the fixed bin"
already this is technically not possible (in the standard). If you have a fixed bin (means the storage type has the strategy fixed bin) - there is only one bin in which the material goes in this storage type. No other storage bin is considered.
"How can we avoid the fixed bin itself from being considered as a source bin while still allowing other bins in the same storage type to be considered?"
That you would have to develop completely.
"Our thought is to store overstock in a completely separate storage type although the locations are in close proximity to the fixed bin locations. Then with search sequence we will exclude the fixed bin storage type completely. We cannot leave the stock removal indicator blank in material master as it controls picking from the fixed bin for our kit program."
And that is what you do when you work with fixed bin and replenishment. You have one storage type with the strategy for fixed bins (and usually you pick first from this one) and you have one or more other storage types from where you do the replenishment.
Now you problem ís that when you do replenishment the system takes the same storage type sequence then for the picking. So it always takes the stock from the fixed bin to replenish into the fixed bin.
The trick is by using a field in the replenishment movement type ... and now I don't know the name of it - I do not sit in front of a system, so I can not look it up. But if you check the table for the storage type search sequence, there is colum "movement type reference" or something like that. This field is also in the warehouse movement type. So you maintain this field with the entry you use in the storage type search sequence and this way you separate it from the "normal" picking process. So in the combination with this field you find a search sequence which does NOT contain you fixed bin storage type.

The stock might be considering the oldest stock and sometimes it may happen that the source and destination bins are the same. This generally happens while issuing stock for production. You may need to exclude the stock from Stringent FIFO. Path given below
SPRO-LE-WM-Strategies-Stock Removal Strategies-Define Fifo Strategy for Stringent Fifo.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

You can work this at the material level.
Leave the "stock removal" indicator blank (WM1 View)
Or Define a different Storage Type Search (OMLY) and assign it to the material

Hi
So you want to have the storage type maintained as 'fixed bin managed' but not specify the storage bin in the material master?

Darren
