patching a NW 7.4 installation without a XML file

Is it possible to patch a SAP NW 7.40 after installation without generating a XML file ?

Scenario: small customer with new sap landscape without solution manager

Hi Marian,

Yes, you can apply patch to NW 7.40 without XML file, through SPAM (for ABAP). But, you need to go through the per-condition for all dependent software components patches, which will be time consuming job. If you use SUM to apply patches, which automatically decides the patches needed along with the XML file, But without XML file you can't use SUM.

You can deploy java patches without the xml file if you use directory based selection.

Please select this option and it will allow you to deploy the stack for java without stack file.

Hi,

Can you please suggest what patches you are willing to deploy.

If ABAP patches you can use the SPAM to deploy it.(If no addon )

For JAVA patches you can use SUM tool using the directory based selection and place all the patch in that directory.

To be more specific, I'm talking about the latest available Java stack with delta patches (f.e. SP4  (SP5 soon  )).

For ABAP it's crystal clear.
