Is XI is a right choice ?

Former Member

All my 10+ experience is in programming ( oracle database ), so I consider myself as a technical ..

I am completely new SAP and I choose XI bcos I felt its technical and challenging plus hot in the market with good billing rate ..

But I am doubting myself, whether I can able to handle XI projects with confidence.

I am allotting myself 3 months time (on an average 5 hours/day) to learn XI and then start looking for a project .. Is this realistic ?

Can I able to work as a XI consultant just spending about 3 months learning ?

I like to hear advice/suggestions <b>only from XI consultants</b> who are working in XI for atleast one year ..

Feedback from experienced XI consultants will really help me think in a realistic approach in order to avoid disappointments ..

HI,

Sure , 3-4 months and 5 hrs per day, you can learn XI upto some extent. Also you would have to work on more scenarios.Actuall time and hrs are not mandatory , what sort of scenarios you would havndled and worked. Please try to complete SAP ABAP and JAVA.

see the sample scenarios also

Hi AP

May be but my suggestion is don't depend on this 100% because of two

reasons

-

It is a new technology and not established 100% perfect middleware !!!

I think there are not too many projects in the Globe and hopefully it

will pick up soon !

--- As a fresher placement in company is not that easy and work hard

Frankly lot of competition in XI market know !!!

As a new technology you can learn and give a try but don't depend 100% on this

only and sure many are expecting ABAP or Java working exp

All the best and welcome to XI

regards

Y not u can choose XI. Xi is all about integrating systems and if u canunderstand the tehcnical aspect of the system u can def cover it up within 3 months time. Initally u need to spend much time in configuring scenarios and this will give u enoughj confidence. and when u are in project u will encounted similar issues on what u have configured except to the fact some addons to it. So no need to have a doubt of becoming a successful xi consultant

Hi,

The programming experience you have will certainly help you while applying some logic for mapping. XI itself is technical and yes its market is too good.

The dedicated 3-4 months will be good in my view to learn XI. It has relation with several other things as mentioed in previous reply as well, such as IDOC,BAPI and more terms related to the traditional SAP. I will suggest that please start learning some basics of JAVA as you will need it to understand the structure/architechture of XI and will also need in JAVA mapping when graphical mapping is not sufficient. There are so many questions/threads on SDN heading as New to XI, Learning XI and many more. Go through these threads to get the understanding of XI. Apart from it there is help.sap.com nad other portals that will help you to get information about it.

Check out the homepage of XI SDN by clicking on the below link. Here you will find various links such as Getting started, few links for XI books and many more..

Hope you will learn it in the timeline and good luck.

Hi,

Learning XI in 3-4 months is good amount of time, but before doing it, according to me you need to have an idea of EDI,IDOC and Workflow concepts. The knowledge of ABAP is important to learn it fast and understand the concepts...

After that the overall archiceture of SAP Netweaver is needed, not technically you need to know all the components but you need to have overall idea of all the components...

Knowing XI and its concepts is ok when you do basic examples but when you implement in the realtime scinarios ,you will see its all different..

Overall XI is emerging field in SAP, and i hope you will make it in to this and all the best.

Honestly I would say that learning XI in a timeframe of 3-4 months is reasonable if you are determined; you obviously have a lot of experience. The difficult part will be the fact that you have no experience with SAP, and there are certain technologies with regards to SAP that XI is dependant upon. For example: IDocs, ALE, EDI, some SAP systems admin knowledge. Those are just a few of the many SAP technologies that you will need to know in order to successfully work as a consultant doing integration with XI.

Learning the software is the easy part. With a background such as yours, learning XI should be no problem. But applying that to the real world scenarios that will involve many different SAP technologies is something that you have to gain from sheer time and experience.

But much luck to you!

Hey

even though i haven't been working for 1 yr in XI but i can tell u about how much time it took me to learn XI.

alltogether i would say it took me 3-4 months to learn XI,but i didn't had any instructor,i only made use of help.sap.com and sdn.sap.com.

i still dont know the intricacies of XI but have rough idea about pretty much everything.

SAP XI is a growing market and i guess u shud be comfortable.

Alla da bst:)

thanx
