How can we grant SAP Logon Tickets without using Portal?

Hi

We are using the .Net connector to develop Portal and it seems the only thing that the Portal is doing is issuing an SAP Logon Ticket to enable users to access R3 and BW.

We don't want to have to support the whole infrastructure of Portal just for this.

Is there any other way of getting SAP Logon Tickets without using Portal?

Thanks

Giles

Out of interest do you intend to do a web request against AS-ABAP (a custom BSP page of your writing) to get a logon ticket, then use that ticket in the connector ?

Is this how it would work to give SSO in your app. This is something I want to try myself but tickets are not currently enabled so Im curious how other people have/will do this.

We haven't decided yet - we are just looking at the architecture and considering whether there is a way of removing SAP Portal completely as it will only be dishing out Logon Tickets.

Cheers
