Error in DBACOCKPIT - Tempdb files should not be on the same drive as trxlog

Hello SQL gurues

I have been seeing the warning in our DBACOCKPIT.

TempDB files and the R/3 trx log should be onb different devices

My problem is that the files are NOT on the same device, but somehow SAP seems to keep thinking they are.

I have tried to detach the database and move the files to a different drive just to be sure, but nothing seems to help.

hase anyone seen that error before and found a fix for it.

I know it's just a warning, but still like to have green lights

Kind regards

Jens Olsen

Hi Jens,

Could you share the disk distribution as well as hard disk drive distribution of the setup.

The messages implies that R/3 database should be on a RAID5 system (or RAID0+1);R/3 transaction logs on a RAID1 system; Other files such as the NT operating system, NT page file, tempdb database and executables on a disk or RAID system.

Hope this helps.

Hi Deepak

Not completely sure what you mean, but will try to explain.

We are running SAP on MS 2008 R2 servers and SQL 2008 R2 SP2

SQL installed on the C drive, with Tempdb and SQL Datafiles on one Disk ( G: ) and the Logfiles on a different drive ( H:)

It's all running on VMware.

I addition I can tell I had the same warning on a different system. This was fixed after moving the log to a different drive.

Might need to have a talk with the sys admin on this, or live wit the warning.

Kind regards

Jens

Hi Jens,

As per your configuration

Tempdb and SQL Datafiles on one Disk ( G: )

It would be good to more Tempdb to a new partition and then observe.

Hope this helps.

Hi Deepak

Moveing Tempdb away from the datafiles did the trick, thank you so much for your time.

Kind regards
