Revision Level Length

My client wishes to use Engineering Change Management. 

They build the product to customer print and wish to uses revision level functionality.  The issue is the revision level is a 2 character length field.  Their revision levels can be up to 15 characters. 

Requesting suggestions on how to manage revision levels longer than 2 characters.

I might be wrong but I don't see REVLV getting changed from 2 characters any time soon, where-used list returns 801 hits in a NW731 system. The Dynpros are most painful since there might not be enough real estate on the UI for more than 2 characters. Have you considered using characteristics now that it is possible for engineering records?
