External Job Schedulers

Dear APO Experts,

In the context of SAP in general and APO in particular, what is the reason for using external job scheduling applications when SAP itself has decent capabilities that seem to meet most needs ?

I complain on former because it does nothing other than adding a layer of nuisance and generating some employment without any economic output.

Request some education on this

Regards

Borat.

Hi Borat,

Job schedulers sit on top of multiple systems.  While you can use SM36 (or process chains) in an SAP system to set up a job string, you can't coordinate across systems without some ABAP and event triggers.

For example, due to business reasons, you plan finished and semi-finished products in APO but raw materials are planned in ECC.  You need to coordinate the ECC MRP run to execute after planning is completed in APO and dependent demand is transferred to ECC.

Best Regards,

Mike

Thanks Maclean,

Brilliant. I was thinking local 🙂 as I have never used or seen an external job scheduler myself.

Clear to me now

Many Thanks

Borat
