non-SAP DWH (Oracle) plus SAP BW on one HANA DB possible?

Hi experts

Can you combine a non-SAP DWH (Oracle) and SAP BW on one HANA DB?

1st scenario: Can you access data from a non-SAP DWH virtually from HANA?

2nd scenario: Can you physically replicate non-SAP DWH data into HANA beside existing SAP BW data?

Thanks

T

Hi Thomas,

I don't think currently HANA has a concept of "remote views" based on another database. But depending on your front end tool, you can combine multiple data sources (Oracle and HANA) in one reporting layer. I am not sure if it is already available in SAP BO, but it was mentioned in Last year TechEd that a Multi-source universe can be created in BO, with one data source being Oracle and another being HANA.

On your second point, YES, it is possible provided you have Enterprise license. You can use any of the ETL tools to replicate the data to another schema on HANA besides existing BW data in SAP schema. You can then publish the BW models as HANA Information views and can combine another application schema based views together.

Hi Ravindra,

SAP has recently launched Smart Data Access in SAP HANA SPS6. Smart data access enables remote data to be accessed as if they are local tables in HANA. Data will not be copied into HANA.

But currently, it is supported for Sybase ASE, Sybase IQ, Hadoop and Teradata.

Thanks,

Sunny

Hi Thomas,

now with HANA SPS 07 it is also possible to connect to an Oracle database using smart data access (remote source).

Data can be retrieved - you can configure pure online or cached mode - and be written back to the original tables by HANA. So it is both ways. Smart.
