Hi,
I want to know what kind of naming conventions can be used for SAP DMS Doc Types.Generally for anything which is customized we used "Z".
But here we have already used Z for one plant and needs to implement to other plants, as DMS is not plant specific best possible way to use it is different Doc Types.
So now as "Z" has already been used so can "Y" be used or some other letter can be used.
As well as in future we have to extend it to other plants as well so how best we can do it.
Regards
Amulya
Hi ,
That means for ex I have a doc type ZRD for Plant X then i can use YRD for plant Y and XRD for plant Z.
If yes please let me know.
As well as do we have any standard documentation where we have all these things.

Hi Amulya,
SAP has given you to use three character way to describe a code for document Type and 20 character for document type Short Description. Generally we as consultant have to decide which naming conventions suits best.
Let say I want to store Finance documents
IPO- Invoice with PO
NPO- Invoice without PO
ASM- Asset Documents
In one of my project there were deferent process for Invoice payment process and they went upto 7 process. So I created Doc. Types as AP1, AP2, AP3, AP4......AP7 and creted their Description accordingly so that when user creates a DIR he does not have any doubts what he is creating.
So you are better judge to decide the codifcation and naming conventions. Hope this answers your query.

You can use any letters, but i prefer a specific naming convention would be appropriate
for example for your scenario
plant: 001 --> Z_001_DOC1
plant:002 ---> Z_002_DOC1.. etc.

Hi Amulya,
generally there are no special naming restrictions for document type values. So you can normally you all kind of letters.
Best regards,
Christoph
