Please suggest us would we go for an upgrade , if yes why ? If no Why ? , would like to know.

                                                     OR

Should we go for an fresh implementation of Solution Manager 7.1 instead of upgrade the same.

Please suggest

Hi Vishnu,

This is very clearly answered with SAP document in the below link

https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700000911492011E/

Practically if you are not using other than mandatory MOPZ better to install a fresh one.

check it has detailed info regarding the same topic covering WHY(slide 3) ..extract as below.

You should definitely upgrade if

•you are currently using SAP Solution Manager

•systems are connected and data transmitted (e.g. SAP EarlyWatch Alert)

•business processes are documented inside SAP Solution Manager

•any data exists which you want to preserve

You may want to consider a new installation if

•your SAP Solution Manager system is outdated and not really used

•Main purpose is to generate keys and download Support Packages

•none of the information contained needs to be preserved

•it is a sandbox installations used for evaluation purposes

Hope this ans ur query and clarifies doubt

Hi Vishnu,

It depends upon the usage of the solution manager system in your landscape. The solman system is extensively used like service desk, charm, etc then you can proceed with the upgrade.

If the system is just configured with all the other systems in landscapes then we can go with fresh implementation of solution manager.

However it depends upon the client as well.

Hi,

How to calculate and which path to go.

You need to check the below aspects.

How much functionality has been implemented in your solution manager.

If you think that you have too much functionality implemented in your solution manager and huge customising done then the upgrade is better Path.

But if you are not using the solution manager and don't have huge manage system linked to your solution manager then you can install a new solution manager to go for fresh start.

The calculation of installation or upgrade also changes if you have Solution manager as SLD or Redwood installed on it. If you choose new installation you need to get the data migrated across.

So you need to get an excel and calculate all the complexity and the benefit involved .

Thanks

Hi Vishnu,

You need to upgrade your solution manager system as it will be out of Mainstream Maintenance in the end of this year.

For good SAP support it is highly recommended to upgrade your solman to 7.1

Regarding new installation, I will suggest you to upgrade as new installation will require more configuration to connect to other servers then configurations after upgrade.

hello abhi ,

thanks for the your valuable input.

What i heard is that there is lot of bugs in solution manager  7.0 while upgrade to 7.1.

Some of our SAP colleague suggest me on to Install SAP instead of going for upgrade as you will face lot of Bugs while upgrading. Is it true?
