Limit the number of Quants in a Bin.

HI,

We have  a requirement to limit the number of quants in a bin to 7.

Are there any settings in Stock placement strategies to achieve this. The stock placement strategy should not consider the bin for placement if there are more than 7 quants in a bin.

Thanks

Our bins are big and the mateirals that go in to it are very small. SO we want to limit the number of unique items in the bins.

Hello,

Use addition to existing stock strategy "I" with bin capacity method 2- check based on storage unit type check. In material master WM2 view enter palletisation data with 7 storage unit type per your base unit of measurement.  With this strategy your storage type will search the bin where the stock is already exist. If it is more than 7 SU then would search next empty bin.

Prerequisite to this is, mix storage should not be allowed for storage type configuration.

The dis-advantage of this strategy is, system can not automatically distribute the quantity between partially filled bin and another empty bin. System would suggest only one bin to full fill full capacity of that bin or suggest next empty bin to fill that bin.

Milind

Just want to add few more points

(1) You can flag active capacity check in storage type customization. The effect of this setting is, in case your bin is partially filled then system would search other empty bins and try to put-away the stack. If you have large  number of bins in storage type then this may lead to slow performance issue as system would have search all the Bins.

(2) You can also use capacity check method 4- usage based on material with strategy= I addition to existing stock. Prerequisite is

   (I)  In WM2 view use 7 SU in palletisation data

(ii) Bin capacity would be the mandatory entry if you use capacity check method 4. Update all your bins with total capacity=7

(iii) Material master WM1 view, capacity usage=1. If you do not enter the unit then system would consider as base unit.

(iv) With point (ii) and (iii), system will calculate bin capacity by subtracting total available bin qty with order qty. If the capacity is full then would suggest next empty bin.

(v) You can flag active capacity check for your storage type. The effect of this setting is, system would try to fill available bins with same material and after fulfilling its capacity search for next empty bins.

Hello Deepu,

You have not specified what do you mean by number of quant in Bin. When you say number of quant in bins means you have either same material with different batches, or different materials or different SUs,

If you mean to say number of quant 7 of material means qty = 7 units (EA/PC/KG etc) then it is one quant and not 7 quant.

Please be specific about your exact requirement of what do you mean by quant 7 and why do you want this? Whether your bin has specific capacity to occupy only 7 SUs?   After knowing this,I may be able to guide further.

Deepu,

What is your Stock placement strategy? Is it Bulk? If it's bulk you could limit the quants using block structure table.

Thank you,

Binu

Hi Deepu,

What is the need to limit the quant to 7?, what is the max holding qty of the single quant? or per quant 1 qty will be placed?

Ravi

No, I have never seen anywhere an option to get this through customizing. The usual limitations are capacity and weight.

What is the background for this request? Are the bins too big?

Hi,

A storage unit in a bin is equivalent to a quant. If you want control the number of quants, jus control the number of storage unit per bin. With the strategy P, you can define how much storage units can be place in a bin, which is the same as quant.

Hope its helpful.
