QGM for Maintenance project

We would like to activate QGM for a maintenance project but are not ready to activate ChaRM.

Since ChaRM normally takes care of the different change types such as normal, standard and urgent changes we will not have that functionality. Besides I understand QGM changes to be regarded as normal changes.

Now - will we be able to do urgent transports in a maintenance project that only are activated for QGM? If not, do you see any possible workarounds?

hi Mark,

QGM initially created and used only for implementation scenario. It was from SM 7.1 QGM opened for maintenance project too.

However we cant enjoy all the feature as exactly by the charm, since QGM has its own purpose of controlling quality of the changes, its the same general TMS on top of double qualtiy check with the help of q gates.

In QGM you need to manually release the change OR Project or A single TR, this work only if you passed the certain Gate Phases.

Hence in your urgent change scenario, just release the change and Set the Qgate to certain phase ( Deploy phase), then import to PRD. After you done set the change back to Deploy. But this is not very easy as such in implementation project , because Maintenace project we too have maintenace cycle too, however we have other feature as reassign and decouple TR, which helps in correcting bugs.

Hi Mark,

In QGM, there is no Change Document concept (Normal or Urgent). It is just the Change Request with TRs comprise the working entity.  Since all the Changes (a.k.a TRs inside a Change Request) move through strick Q Gates, you can say Change Request in QGM is somewhat similar to Normal Change. If the Q Gate is open then you anyways can create a Change Request in DEV and Move it to Pre Prod or Prod ( like a Emergency Change). For this you need to keep the Q Gates till Pre Prod or Prod  open for moving the Change Request.
