in order to generate a vaild solution manager key you'll need an installed solution manager..at least 3.2 SP8:
invoke transaction smsy -> go for SYSTEM LANDSCAPE -> OTHER OBJECT -> choose the appropriate system id -> go for button GENERATE INSTALLATION/UPGRADE KEY....
<b>meaning: without this key you will not be able to do the installation of ECC!</b>
<u>steps:</u>
-> get installation guide + relevant notes
-> check prerequisites (and adjust accordingly!)
-> install oracle rdbms incl. patches
-> invoke sap installation using SAPINST
-> go for ECC5 -> your DB/OS combination -> install central instance/system
-> follow instructions...

all of it? central instance, rdbms and database instance? well then you ready for take off
-> use the saplogon to create a new destination...-> new entry and fill in the appropriate infos
description: whatever you like
application server: IP or the hostname of the server running the sap system
system number: the system number (00, 01, 02 = eg. what you have chosen during installation)
system id: system identification (= you gave during installation)
sap router string: only needed, when you plan to use the saprouter process for login purposes
when all needed fields are filled you can login to the sap system...use user DDIC or SAP* in client 000 or 001 with the master password you provided during installation...

??? you are logged in, invoke se38 and then you will be asked for an access key?
or do you mean that you're trying to modify sap standard objects?
-> client 000
-> user: ddic
-> pwd: use the one you choose when asked during isntallation (= master password!)
but...if you want to modify you'll need to be a registered developer....
