Customer Hierarchy

We have multiple Customer Hierarchies that are used in our system for both reporting and processing of our Contracts and Orders.  At a minimum each Customer requires at least Parent (1A Partner Function) and a Site (1C Partner Function).  If a Customer only has one site (1C) and the same address information as the Parent (1A), can the Customer be created as both a 1A Partner Function, and a 1C Partner Function, and assigned to itself in the Customer Hierarchy to prevent creating a duplicate Customer?

Thanks, SG

Hi Sandi,

Assigning the same partner in hierarchy (e.g.. 1000 assigned to 1000) is not possible as it will lead to reflexive assignment unless they are from Separate Sales Areas. Please try and let us know the results. Thanks.

I fully understand that a Customer can be set up with multiple partner functions in standard SAP functionality.  We have the requirement to identify at least a Parent (1A) and a Site (1C) for each Customer.  In approximately 30% of Customers, the Parent and the Site are the same name, address, etc.  In this case, I wanted to understand if the same Customer 1000 (1C Partner Function) can be assigned to Customer 1000 (1A Partner Function), same Account Group,  in the Customer Hierarchy.  Does the Hierarchy program permit this, and what would be the repercussions of doing this?  Currently, the Customer is created as both a Parent and a Site under different Account Groups and Customer numbers.  We were looking at eliminating some duplication of Customers.

Thank you,

Sandi

Hi Sandi,

Yes, You can create both Hierarchy Partner Function and assign the same. Let us know if doing the same you face any issue.

Hi,

To answer your question on - whether the same customer be created as two different partner functions - Yes, it is possible. For example, one customer can be a Sold-to (Partner function - 1), Ship-To (Partner function - 2), Bill-To (Partner function - 3) &  Payer (Partner function - 4)
