How granular ( Data) is good for S&OP ?

How Granular should we be planning for S&OP.?

As we all  know  demand planning generates good forecast if we do forecast at granular level. Should it be the same in S&OP which is  more strategic planning but resolves tactical or operational issues....Particularly after SAP S&OP HANA is in place ( Better disaggregation ) ...

Hi Raju,

I think we need to let customers understand that SAP S&OP is for establishing a strong S&OP process in their organization. Since S&OP is a guiding process at strategic and tactical levels rather than operations level, the granularity of budget plans is important to be considered. In S&OP therefore I may plan with  weekly,  monthly, quarterly or yearly time periods as in APO DP.

Example , should  S&OP demand / supply match done at  Family level or Product / location level...

Issue come's here in APO , DP planning is done ( Kind of ) Middle level of Hierarchy Product family at region  and rel to SNP at lowest level ( Product / Location ..

Doing such may be over kill and time consuming in S&OP, wanted other's input..
