Hi,
Please check these useful link on solution manager :
<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm40/helpdata/en/45/51fbdbd4941803e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm">Solution Manager</a>
<a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/bpx/sapSolutionManager&">Solution Manager 2</a>
Its an implementation methodology followed during sap implementations. The same was called ASAP in the previous versions and later on became value SAP. With added features now its called as the Solution Manager.
So its not about funtional or technical. And everyone in the team are supposed to know what solution manager is, if they are using it are going to have an implementation supported by solution manager.
Hope its useful. Please reward if helpful.
Thanks & Regards

Hi
Normally for implementing SAP has provided ASAP methodology. For support we are using different tools like Remedy, Synergy. Now SAP has launched the Solution Manager and provided that for free of cost. Here we can implement the project and at the same time we can use like a tool to track the issues. This is benefit for this Solution manager.
If it helps award points.

Hi,
We use ASAP methodology for implementing a project. We have 5 phases in the ASAP methodology.
In each phase we come across different documents , methods , procedures that areto be followed to make the implementation to be successful.
To reduce the time and make the consultants make use of the SAP in an easy manner for implementation, SAP has designed a tool called solution manger to follow the steps for implementation.
The solution manger also follows ASAP methodology but whatever you require it is available in the solution manger.
