Capacity planning for subcontracting items

Hi SCM experts,

We use SCM SNP for our short & long term planning. We are on SCM 702. We have some 100
items on subcontracting where we supply components. The vendor has 4 different resources which are dedicated to our production. We often get into capacity issue and orders are getting delayed or re-prioritized and rescheduled with last minute notifications. We want to perform capacity planning of those resources in SNP.

Currently our planners analyze the capacity manually and set the priority to orders and keep
changing them as we do not have visibility of capacity load. How do we model these resources in SNP to perform capacity leveling since these resources are not in our plant?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Raj,

You have to use subcontracting with source location in SNP scenario. In that you can design the vendor resource in APO. You can get the resource availability information from Vendor and maintain the same with the APO resource. Thus indirectly model vendor capacity constrain in your design.

Please refer the below link for more information

Hi Mani,

Thanks for the information. Our need is to perform capacity leveling on subcontractor's resources used for production. However from your link SAP help says the capacity leveling is not possible. Here is the extract of the help:

In SNP, the heuristic-based and optimization-based planning approaches are available for the subcontracting process. The planning procedures deployment, transport load
building
(TLB), and capacity leveling are not possible

Here it's nowhere tell about capacity leveling. I appreciate if you can please clarify this.

Thanks

Raj

Hi Raj,

1. Create a dummy work center (in ECC) at Subcontracting Plant. This work center should have all the details of capacity of Vendor resources.

2. Create a dummy Routing (only one operation) for the item at Subcontracting plant. This operation should use the resource created in above step.

3. Maintain Routing and BOM data in Production version for the Subcontracted item (with Proc Type F-30)

4. Create a SNP PDS in APO via CIF Integration model. Direclty create SNP PDS. No need of PPDS PDS integration model.

5. If you run SNP heuristics for this Item-Location combination in APO then SNP Planned orders will be generated using SNP PDS as source. These way set-up can be done for SNP Capacity levelling in APO.

6. Later on these Planned orders can be converted to Purchase Requisitions / Purchase orders.

7. Remember that once SNP Planned order is converted to PReq then Resource will not show capacity consumption

Hope this helps.
