WD Application connecting R/3 without message server?

Hi Experts,

one information required. Is it mandatory to have a message server usage when I try to connect R3 BAPI from Web Dynpro? In the system I am trying to connect I only have a dedicated application server - no message server or CI is there. So how do I create the SLD system object - and what message server port should I mention there? My system no is 32 - so should I use 3632 as the port number is SLD configuration for the system object? How does it occur when we dont have a message server? Please clear this concept out to me..

Thanks a lot...

Shubhadip,

If you are connecting via JCO or SAP Enterprise Connector you may use either message or application server. If you are connecting via Adaptive RFC Model then message server is mandatory for metadata connection. Also it's highly recommended to use message server for data connection to utilize load-balancing.

Hi Shubhadip,

Message Server Port number always: 3600 + system number or instance number R/3.

Central Application Server = Sapxx + system number.

Login to R/3 system -> system tab in menu followed by click on status field there you will find all R/3 details..
