Hi Folks,
we are planning to install an ECC 6.0 EHP7. CI and database on the same box (RHEL).
we are going to configure a virtual hostname for the ci and the database (sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME...).
Configuration:
CNAME:
ci=sap-sid
db=sap-sid-db
A-Record
hostname=servera
in DNS we created a cname record for sap-sid and sap-sid-db, they are linked to servera, not the ip.
during dedicated installation (2nd part the database part) we got the error that the record sap-sid-db resolves to sap-sid, because we have just one ip adress for servera, which ends in a error message during installation.
in such a configuration, is it necessary to configure two ip adresses for the host "servera"? one ip for ci and one for database?
thanks in advanced.
regards
Hi,
This configuration might create problems for you. Please refer to SAP note 962955 which describes how to configure virtual hostnames.
Thanks
Sunny

Hi Marc,
Best way to make use of virtual hostnames is to have dedicated IPs for each of the virtual hostnames.
Working with alias will create problems in installation. I have faced problems with aliases at one of my customers.
Hope this helps.
