Hello everyone,

If there are 10,000 users for MDM then in this case should we go for portal or Data Manager as an entry point for record creation.

I want to know what is the limit for Data manger users. Upto how many users we can think of Data Manager.

Regards,

Rohini Joshi.

Hi Rohini,

I am pasting SAP note 1512323,it answers this in elaborate manner -

Symptom

MDS performance is low and affects response time of all MDM clients.
The list of repository connections on MDM Console shows a high number of Data Manager connections.

Other terms

O 0775232 2010

Reason and Prerequisites

MDM Data Manager is a rich client which is designed to provide fully    updated repository information to a powerful user.
To provide this information, the Data Manager constantly interacts
directly with MDS.
It provides the user with the widest scope of MDM functions: Non-restricted access to all tables and all fields, Mass updates, Taxonomy read/write access, etc.
As the number of Data Managers loaded increases, MDS load
increases in order to feed the updated information to all clients.

Solution

Ensure that MDM Data Manager is used by data administrators and power users only.
The number of data administrators and power users connected to an MDM repository should not be higher than 15.

Users who are are expected to execute restricted tasks with MDM are encouraged to utilize MDM's Web UI. For example, workflow users who handle certain workflow tasks, or users who are not permitted to view all tables or fields.

This information is effective for all MDM versions, starting from 5.5.

Thanks,

Ravi

Hi Rohini,

As the reference given by Ravi, the performance will be very drastically affected if the number of users are as high as given by you in case if they use Data Manager. It is always advisable that only Data Stewards and Administrators use the Data Manager.

The other option opted by you to use Portal will suffice your requirement here. Portal allows 50,000 users at a time ( as far as I know). Also the Check in/out issue can widely be avoided in case of portal.

MDM has the know issue of the server getting stopped after a certain number of users access it.

Kind Regards,
