Dear all,

I am currently proforming one nw7.02 kernel update, from 721 - v46 to 721 - v100.

Can you tell me if the sapcpe is one necessary step for kernel update?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Jimmy

Hello

Not necessarily. Only if it is explicitly mentioned in SAP notes.

I have seen only the manual execution of the sapcpe during a kernel upgrade only if the kernel release is getting changed. Just my observation and I might be wrong.

Check these SAP notes where it speaks about triggering the sapcpe program against the instance profiles.

Note 1636252 - Installing a 7.20 kernel in SAP Web AS 7.00/7.01/7.10/7.11

Note 1713986 - Installation of kernel 721 (EXT)

In your case you are on the same kernel release and you are updating the patch level of the kernel.

Hi Jimmy,

No, you don't need to run sapcpe manually.

Check the sapcpe.log file to confirm that the files have been copied successfully,

(extract from the bottom of sapcpe.log)

Copy Errors detected.................: 0

Sync Errors detected.................: 0

Please let us know you if have any error on the sapcpe.log.

Hello Jimmy,

As per SAP notes we can see:

953653:

We recommend that you use the automatic copy of executables using sapcpe that is described in SAP Note 1104735.

1104735:

The kernel is replicated using the program sapcpe.

...

Execute_00 = immediate $(DIR_CT_RUN)/sapcpe$(FT_EXE) pf=$(_PF)

That's correct, that line should be in your instance start profile by default.

SAPCPE runs automatically when you start the system and distributes the kernel to all the required locations... so the answer is no.
