Hi Chrs,

Technically speaking ..You can install a Nw7.0 system as Non Unicode. But SAP recommends converting it to Unicode. But Non Unicode systems are still support when you perform the system copy of an SAP system upgraded to SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3. This might be the reason why SAP still retains the option for “Unicode system” selection box in the installer.

Anyway as said by Hannes and Rishi, its  will be better to convert your system to Unicode ASAP for the better support from SAP.

Sandy

Hi Chris,

This note describes clearly: 1896539 - Questions about compatibility and end of support to non-Unicode systems

All new systems have to be installed as Unicode systems.

Hi Derik,

going forward there is an end for non-Unicode support in new releases: "SAP NetWeaver 7.40 is the last release supporting non-Unicode" (check at https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/012002523100009958832014E/ or see SAP Note 2033243).

Best regards,

Christian

Hi Chris,

it is possible, but not recommended or supported (depends on your requirements). See SAP Note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/73606

e.g.

"2. As of release SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Unicode is the default for all new installations of Single Code Page systems

3. Unicode is the mandatory system type: ...."

If your requirements fall under point 3, then you need to go ahead with Unicode.

Hi,

Please check the below note .

Note 838402 - Problems within non-Unicode system landscapes

New releases of SAP NetWeaver and SAP applications based on SAP

NetWeaver, released in 2007 or later, will no longer support new installations of non-Unicode systems. See also the attached  customer letter Customer_Letter_64_U.pdf from April 11th 2006 (also available at www.service.sap.com/platforms).

Existing non-Unicode systems are still supported, but due to the  intrinsic limitations of non-Unicode code pages SAP recommends a  conversion to Unicode, especially when upgrading system to Netweaver 7.0 (ERP 2005) and higher releases.

Problems can occur after any upgrade, even whithout applying new  applications, e.g. in case.existing applications are redesigned based on new technologies.
