Installation of Automatic Workstation Update on Win7 64bit fails

Former Member

dear colleques,

i attempt to install SAP Gui from an installation server to a win7 64 bit client. At first I made a new package which contained SAPGui + Logonpad + ECL Viewer + Automatic Workstation Update. After starting SapGuiSetup an choosing the predefined package the installation screen just vanished. After some try and error runs it seems the installation process terminates every time i try to install a package which contains the Automatic Workstation Update product. There are some error messages in the installation log:

14:15:08 NwSapsAtlC  1E  Server Path C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP\SAPsetup\Setup could not be found: Error message: Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden. Error code 0x00000002 (2).

anyone an idea on this?

thanks in advance!

Alexander

Alexander,

Have you read SAP Note 1584270 - AWUS & SAPSrvSetup.xml?

Symptom

ProgramFiles\SAP\SapSetup\LOGs\NwSapAutoWorkstationUpdateService.log contains the error:
NWAWUSVC 1W Error locating SAPSvrSetup.xml: : The system cannot find the file specified
and SAP Automatic Workstation Update Service does not perform updates on client machines

Reason and Prerequisites

Starting with version 8.6. of NwSapSetup the NwSapSetup tools protect themselves against changes in the XML format of the installation description. That means that any operation on XML files is always performed by tool versions which are not older than the XML files in question.

In order to also protect the XML files against unwanted changes by older NwSapSetup versions (which can not be adapted), we decided to remove the SapSvrSetup.xml file from the Installation Server. Thus old tools no longer recognize an 8.6. version (and higher) Installation Server as valid. As described above, this is a feature that is vital to protect the installation server integrity.

The only tool that breaks with this arrangement is the Workstation Update Service in versions below 8.6. It will display the symptoms described in this note.

Cheers,

Dan Mead

Hello Alexander,

Try to create a new installation server with compilation 3 DVD and migrate your existing package

into it using note 1266552 - Migrating an Installationserver to a new Compilation

http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1266552

Hi Alexander,

I have the same question as Andrew. Have you figured out the problem in the meantime?

Since my last update of the installation server two days ago I have the same issue with NWBC 4.0.

NwSapsEngn  1   Requirements of server components:

13:21:35 NwSapsAtlC  1E  Component '{F226834A-7262-4DC2-9BB0-2FFE905F023E}' required by '{A6E61C34-B094-4764-9610-C8875B9FBE1C}' (SAP NWBC, Version 4055) not found

13:21:35 NwSapsAtlC  1E  Component '{7C99EC2D-EE10-4EBF-920E-B3C76E0F2F5A}' required by '{A6E61C34-B094-4764-9610-C8875B9FBE1C}' (SAP NWBC, Version 4055) not found

.......

later in the installation log

NwSapsEngn  1E  Component '{F226834A-7262-4DC2-9BB0-2FFE905F023E}' required on server has definition missing Error message: The data is invalid. Error code 0x0000000d (13).

I have SAPSETUP PL 40 and NWBC PL 11

thanks

Please try the latest compilation 3 DVD which includes patch 7 of the SAPGUI and NWBC4.0

Be sure to also install the latest sapsetup patches (level 40) following note

http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1587566

Alexander, did you ever figure it out? I'm running into the same error in a similar situation. In my case, if the NWBC client is part of the install package, I get the error:

NwSapsEngn  1E  Component '{F226834A-7262-4DC2-9BB0-2FFE905F023E}' required on server has definition missing Error message: The data is invalid. Error code 0x0000000d (13).

But if I install a different package that doesn't have NWBC, it installs just fine. The latest version of SAPSetup that works for NWBC for me is 9.0.22.0 with NWBC 4 pl3. This NWBC version installs but doesn't run on WIndows 8.1 because of the Internet Explorer 11 browser. So I need to upgrade but all the upgrades past what I'm currently on are giving me that same error.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hello Alexander,

Please download the lastest AWUS and sapsetup patches from the service marketplace, and check if the issue recoccurs.Note (http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1587566) gives the instructions to download the patches.

The note is not working at the moment,so follow the steps below.

SAP Service Marketplace http://service.sap.com/sltoolset -> Software
Logistics Toolset 1.0 -> download SAPSETUP 9.0 -> Support Package
Patches -> Windows Server on IA32 32bit

SAPSETUPP90SP00_0_WUS.exe (patch for SapSetup, SAP AWUS, SapStart)
This patch contains SapSetup and AWUS. It is for all scenarios that
include the Automatic Workstation Update Service.

SAPSETUP90SP00SETUP.exe (patch for SapSetup without AWUS)
This patch is for scenarios without the AWUS.

Jude

hello Jude,

thank you for your reply. Our server was already patched to PL 37, although i think i used the patch without AWUS. Now i applied SAPSETUP90P2SP00_37-20008539 to the server. Patch was recognised and installed correctly. Check Server Option shows green but the installation of AWUS still terminates silently with same error logs as written above.

If there are some files missing or have false file version, should this not be detected by the server check?

The installation server should find errors in the check file is there are any missing.

Would you mind posting the complete install log file here so we can investigate?

Regards.

please see the installation log attached below. Strangely, although i applied patch 37 to the server, one of the lines in the installation log reads

08:24:33 NwSapsAtlC  1   PATCHLEVEL = 36 Version 9.0.36.0
