Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if SAP NetWeaver Gateway can also connect to non-SAP backend (legacy) systems. If the answer is "Yes", please name a few of them.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Abhishek

Hi Abhishek,

Please check below thread and link.

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-35472

The whole focus of the SAP NetWeaver Gateway interface is the REST enablement of SAP business data and functionality, thereby making it easy for non-SAP applications to consume. These could be:

Any external business application. E.G. Microsoft Office applications via a .Net (or even VBA) interface

Desktop machines using Web-based applications running PHP or Java or Ruby, etc.

Native applications on mobile devices E.G. iPad/iPhone or an Android device or a Blackberry.

Embedded devices such as manufacturing robots or route planning software in Satellite Navigation systems.

Any other business scenario you can think of involving some programmable device that can speak HTTP(S).

Thanks Atul for the reply.

Actually, my question was, if NetWeaver Gateway can be used for REST enablement of non-SAP business data and functionality.

I am looking for a scenario, wherein we can connect to a non-SAP backend, e.g. a legacy system.

Thanks & Regards,

Abhishek

Hello All,

I have found the answers to my questions. I have shared my finding below. Hope it helps.

If you have a none SAP backend and there is a OData service from this backend, then NetWeaver Gateway can directly consume it as discussed in the below link:

External OData service - http://help.sap.com/saphelp_gateway20sp06/helpdata/en/a6/d52d733971414a9fdf6cf188dc9059/frameset.htm

If there is no OData service from the Non-SAP backend, we need to define a Backend Operation proxy (BOP) to consume the Web Service from the Non-SAP backend as discussed in the below link:
