Can we able to apply patches(ABAP/JAVA) through SUM tools

Hello All,

Can we able to apply patches(ABAP/JAVA) through SUM tools on exiting systems

we are planning to upgrade latest ABAP/JAVA patches on the exiting host .

Could you please provide any steps/sapnotes .

SAPNetweavet 7.0 , PI system system with oracle , Windows .

Hi,

yes, now SAP promoting SUM tool for all System maintenance activities, like SPAM, JSPAM, EHP, Kernel upgrade, system upgrades etc.

So it is better to use SUM, you can also use SPAM as an etlernavtive to SUM.

Hello John,

You can absolutely use SUM for patch application and in case of PI usage type, its best to apply patches to dual stack system using SUM only.

Yes, SUM can do all upgrades.

No issues, use the SUM guide and relevant notes on SMP.

Hello John,

yes, you can perform SP update using SUM tool. You should refer central note for SUM and guides available at service market place. It is recommanded to use the latest SUM available at SMP. Also you

need to generate the stack xml file for performing your update.

SUM can be used to upgrade as well as update the system.

## Update refers to the applying the SPs.

Please check the note 1732061 for the details. It provides the complete details about the possible uses of the SUM tool and supported paths.
