Account Assignment Category "GL"

Hi,

I just wanted to know the relevance of Account assignment Category "GL".

I assume that we can do a direct posting to the GL account (by giving GL account only as there is not place for Cost center etc)

I tried but is giving error as

Account xxxxxx requires an assignment to a CO object. Even with a GL without any Cost Object.

I tried Creating the PO with the same data and it let me able to create in ECC but creating in SC gives me the error.

I have seen a thread related to it from Muthu and others.

Is it possible to provide some light on the same.

Is SRM always want a CO object. ??

Where can we give that as with Acc Acount catgory GL the is no place to put any CO object.

Hi Anil,

Do you mean we can not use the GL  as (Acc Assignment Category) in SRM.

Because it is not giving(enabling) field to put any costing object.

Hi Indu,

Yes, we cannot use GL as an Account Assignment Category.

GL account is a master data where debit/credit entries are stored, the value may be procurement/ inventory cost or for particular expenses.

Thanks Anil,

But to my surprise when I checked in MM with a Balance Sheet Account, it is allowing to create a PO but not in the case of SRM.

This is what strange to me.

Hi Indu,

in MM which Account Assignment category you are using ?

If possible, Pls attach a screen shot of the Item detail Account Assignment tab of MM PO.

Hi Indu,

Yes, in SRM for indirect materials you always need to have CO + GL Account.
